A workhorse cutting tool for the kitchen by Nick Rossi with unabashed style reminiscent to that of a mid-century sculptural work. Exceptional in every way, provided you appreciate the aesthetic combination of vintage caramel Bakelite, teal G10, and copper as much as we do, this versatile chef knife was forged by hand at Nick’s Maine workshop. The 204mm / 8″ blade is shaped from a homemade formula that jackets 600-layer damascus in Maine chain wrought iron, 1084, and 15n20 over a core of 52100 carbon tool steel that forms the cutting edge. Powerful and balanced in the hand, the blade’s full convex bevel geometry, thin, razor-sharp edge, and full-distal taper along the spine to a very slim, pointed tip combine to create a tool designed for every cut in the kitchen. A wide, strong blade spine out of the handle and 54mm heel height allow the knife to move through even the densest, toughest ingredients in the back stretch, while dynamic, wonderfully honed geometry as the blade thins toward the tip allows for finesse and precision with every slice. Forge-finished blade flats and tang reveal the marks of the steel’s hand-hammered origins, while the bevels’ polished and etched faces show off the details of the stunning, high-layer damascus cladding. To control this one-of-a-kind piece of culinary art is a comfortable Western style handle sculpted from vintage Bakelite around a thin teal G10 frame, secured by two flush, brushed copper pins and a single teal G10 pin. An heirloom tool to use and covet, by an extremely talented artisan.
