This stunning object is the functional art of Austrian bladesmith and designer Martin Huber, representing his talents and metalworking prowess beautifully. With symmetrical geometry, forge-finished flats showing the blade’s hand-forged origins give way to tall, superbly shaped bevels that slim downward to a thin, wonderfully honed edge ready for every cut. The length, expert freehand grinding, and a carefully controlled heat treatment and hardening process combine to produce a larger-than-life blade with rewarding lateral flexibility that leaves the edge straight as an arrow for every slice, and damascus that undulates up and down over the darkly etched core with top-notch precision. For comfort and control aided at the cutting board by the knife’s overall weight and balance is a handle in octagonal, wa form sculpted from curly koa and bog oak with decorative rings of German Silver, and fossilized mammoth tooth.
