Forged from his house-made firestorm pattern damascus steel, created with two high-carbon alloys, CruForge-V and 15n20, Washington artist Salem Straub delivers a first: a chef’s tourné knife. Hard, thin, and razor-sharp along the recurved 95mm / 3.75″ edge, this large tourné, also called a bird’s beak paring knife, is the perfect tool for handheld work above the board, from paring and peeling vegetables to halving strawberries, eyeing potatoes, and more. The damascus pattern suits the blade shape beautifully, producing a striking, high-contrast aesthetic that Salem pairs with a boldly styled, octagonal wa handle. The bolster is shaped from vintage butterscotch micarta, meeting a ring of reclaimed and repurposed Zildjian cymbal bronze, followed by a piece of eye-catching and unique blue canvas and resin composite.
