Double Rainbow by Andrade

California artist Don Carlos Andrade’s contribution to The Art of Cutlery, a vegetable cleaver named “Double Rainbow,” on show during summer 2024 in Tribeca, NYC, exemplifies this long-time maker’s unique and often-whimsical aesthetic style as well as his function-forward technical excellence informed by his time in fine-dining kitchen. The blade is forged by hand, shaped with Don’s pronounced convex geometry, and given a striking ‘rainbow quench’ during the hardening process. The handle, sculpted in his recognizable, shield-style wa handle rendition, features detail carvings, a rainbow inlay, a single mosaic pin, and translucent green ferrule.
