Washington artist David Lisch’s contribution to The Art of Cutlery, a cleaver named “Eruption,” on show during summer 2024 in Tribeca, NYC, employs a bold and novel approach to the use of feathered damascus steel in a culinary blade. The blade appears to ‘erupt’ from the knife’s display stand, together forming a sculptural work of functional, volcanic art. The handle, with forged integral bolster, is completed with a ring of bronze and carved koa wood. The stand is sculpted from the same koa. Made for daily use, the edge is refined and very sharp.
