Rhode Island artist Joshua Prince’s contribution to The Art of Cutlery, a chef knife named “Peacock,” on show during summer 2024 in Tribeca, NYC, represents the maker’s eclectic eye, creative talents, and technical skills in an object that sacrifices neither form nor function. Forged from a feathered mosaic of varying damascus steel patterns of Joshua’s making, the blade features compound ‘S-grind’ bevel geometry in a versatile profile that reaches nearly 11″ in length. Beyond the blade’s choil, the damascus’s pattern condenses into the shape of the sculpted, integral handle bolster, through which the feathering concentrates, before appearing to be devoured by a ring of synthetic opal. To complete the sculpted, comfortable grip is a piece of carved bocote wood. This knife is razor-sharp and crafted for culinary use.
