The blade is hand-forged from Joseph Schrum’s striking and unique Silver Smoke pattern damascus, while the dark, elegant handle is sculpted from a combination of African Blackwood and Ukrainian Bog Oak. Joseph, the independent artist behind Missouri’s Halcyon Forge has created yet another superb tool that balances form and function in impressive ways. With a dark etch that conjures wisps of shimmering smoke curling over a nighttime scene lit only by the light of the moon, the steel is as versatile on the cutting board as it is inspiring to the mind. At 274mm / 10.8″ long with symmetrical, convex bevel geometry and a thin, razor-sharp edge, the blade is designed for all manner of precision slicing, whether proteins, from delicate sashimi preparation to careful, measured cuts of wagyu, or scoring and detailed cuts of vegetables large and small. Full-convex geometry and a wide, rounded blade spine out of the handle offer strength and rigidity throughout the blade’s length, while a full-distal taper down said spine provides a dynamic finished product with an extremely fine, pointed tip. With fingers wrapped around a simple, oval, wonderfully finished hidden-tang wa-style handle, the balance and weight of this stunning object leave nothing to want.
