Stainless Wootz Pizza Cutter

Multiple disciplines with which we associate Rhode Island artist Joshua Prince are on display throughout the construction of this one-of-a-kind handcrafted pizza wheel. The raw material itself that forms both handle and circular blade is of Joshua’s creation: stainless wootz steel able to be worked, shaped, and, hardened, began its journey in liquified form in a crucible in his one-man shop. That homemade, traditionally concocted wootz then receives a brute-de-forge treatment through hammer and fire to make a handle that is as beautiful and sculptural as it is comfortable and ergonomic, in spite of, or perhaps because of, its rustic appearance (a duality we see often in Joshua’s work). Finally, mounted at the end of the arm, riding on steel ring ball bearings, is a wheel forged, ground, and finished from the same stainless wootz steel as the handle. For the sake of pizza, for the sake of art, for the sake of the modern culinary experience, an heirloom tool of exceptional character.
