If this makes your jaw drop, you are not alone. In another first from bladesmith and metal artists Joshua Prince, the massive, 354mm / 13.9″ blade of this slicer is forged by hand from homemade stainless wootz steel. Liquified in a small crucible at his Rhode Island studio and then forged by hand into the handsome, larger-than-life blade witnessed here, the finished material displays the same beautiful damascus-like pattern expected of wootz, with the easy care and maintenance of a stainless steel chef knife. Thin at the edge with subtly convex bevel geometry below a tapering blade spine with facets along each edge for comfort and good looks, this is a tool with which to prepare and serve the largest cuts of protein, or nearly anything else requiring an oversized amount of sharp steel. Paired to the brute-de-forge style integral bolster, sculpted and comfortable with heirloom fit-up is a striking piece of buckeye burl carved into a Western form to complete the handle.
